Discover SS21 with Kate Gaskin

This season we spoke to seasoned fashion stylist and native Melburnian, Kate Gaskin, to get sneak peek of the upcoming trends this summer and some simple steps on how to wear them.

Kate Gaskin regularly styles runway shows and events such as Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. She has also styled International personalities Coco Rocha, Kate Upton and actor Adrien Brody.

Elegant meet Edgy

This is a very Melbourne aesthetic – a structured, tailored set from Maje styled back with a logo tee paired with a quirky accessories earrings to offset the seriousness of the suiting. We love a casual, nonchalant vibe here in Melbourne, but always finished with a sense of polish and chic. The addition of key accessories is an easy and affordable way to inject personality into your look and create a sense of fun.

Colour meet Confident

The best thing about Melbourne coming back to life is the opportunity to dress up again and really make a statement.

One of the most important fashion rules I live by is to dress for yourself. Don’t be afraid to embrace the colours that call you. We photographed an incredible Rachel Gilbert gown that showcased amazing beaded embellishment; soft baby pink clashed with forest green and pops of yellow. Sounds crazy, but it looks divine.

It’s important to discover and own your personal style; wear what you feel comfortable in. When you feel comfortable, you exude confidence, and is there anything better than that? So be brave, be bold, and do it your way.

Formal meet Fresh

This time of year is always the most exciting. Warmer weather and longer days means there is so much more to see and do - Summer soirees, Spring Racing, Christmas parties, Weddings, any excuse to dress up really!

Whilst there are many bright, bold colours in fashion this Spring/Summer, one way to keep your formal look fresh is to opt for crisp whites and pastels. Lighter colours generally suit most skin tones and hair colours. A fresh palette is an instant way to give you that ‘Summery glow’.

Men who are a little shy to go head to toe in pastel can experiment first - try a pastel shirt with denim or neutrals. Ladies, make sure to wear pastels that complement your skin tone colouring, so they don’t wash you out. When in doubt, go for separates - fresh white top styled with pastel-coloured skirt or pants.
